SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Dr. Sonny Aryan, an emergency dentist in San Diego, is helping to drive awareness of a new study published in the August issue of The Journal of the American Dental Association. The study concludes that there is no evidence that dental treatment with anesthetics is harmful during a woman’s pregnancy.

“It’s not uncommon that due to the perceived dangers of dental treatment during pregnancy, women often avoid seeking emergency dental procedures in San Diego,” said Dr. Aryan. “We now have conclusive evidence that there is no risk and that dental treatment does not have a negative impact on pregnancy outcomes.”

According to the research conducted by The Journal of the American Dental Association, pregnant women may experience tooth decay due to increased carbohydrate consumption or difficulties brushing their teeth due to morning sickness, gag reflex and increased gum bleeding. Tooth decay and gum disease when left untreated can cause severe toothache, tooth abscess and other issues. As a result, patients may require 24-hour emergency dental services in San Diego.
